Working from home in Inverness

Posted: 2 years ago

I think it’s really important to have a good work life balance especially when you’re working from home. When you decide to choose somewhere to live it’s just as important to choose somewhere that will help you strike that balance. For me, that place was Inverness. Here are some reasons why I like living and working from home in Inverness:

It’s an exciting time to be in Inverness because it’s one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. It’s also had a huge boost of cash from the Scottish Government so there’s lots of new and exciting opportunities and you can enjoy being in the Scottish Highlands with all the benefits of being in a Central Belt city.

Dog Walking

There are lots of local dog walking groups about. There are so many that you often find groups for a specific breed. I’m a member of the Highland Labrador Group. They usually have a pack walk at least once a month although sometimes a couple of us meet up for a walk of our own. A few of my favourite local walks include the Caledonian Canal, Culloden Woods and Inshes Park.

Eating Out

As I mentioned at the start of this post, part of the draw to Inverness is that you can enjoy the benefits of being somewhere that feels almost remote but also enjoy the benefits of city life. For me, that’s having the occasional naughty takeaway. What’s also really good, is if you work from home, is you can get in your pyjamas on a Friday afternoon and have a pizza while you finish work without having to leave your house as most takeaways will deliver. And what’s great is you can expect to find franchises such as Domino’s, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s as well as local and independent restaurants.

Socialising

There’s lots of groups to join. For website designers & developers like myself (or anyone else that’s interested) there’s The Highland Web Group that meets once a month at Eden Court to chat about all things web related and sometimes we have a guest speaker and go for a meal out. There’s also Inverness Tech Meetup that meets once a month to A networking group for people interested in technology, either as a hobby or professionally.

Exercise

One of the things about working from home is you don’t have the commute to clear your mind or indeed exercise. I like going to the gym and swimming to do that. There’s a great choice of gyms and pools. Although, I think,  Inverness Leisure has the best swimming pool due to it’s size. Bannatyne is one of the most popular gyms in Inverness but I went with DW as they usually have a promotion running.
